The institution

Overview

Protective technical teaching in a repaired former tram depot; warmth is earned through dependable daily work. Locked Olaf appearance and voice take precedence. No surname established.

History

Second Bell began as an evening class led by Olaf in borrowed community space. A member trust eventually secured a disused tram depot and repaired it one usable room at a time. The name means returning after a difficult day, rather than promising a miraculous comeback. Olaf leads sporting operations; the trust holds the lease and the manager controls ordinary spending. Rav may finance specific improvements through a transparent sponsorship budget, but he neither owns athletes nor appoints himself trainer. The building keeps visible repairs so investment improves daily life without erasing the institution that welcomed Oreo before cameras arrived.

Ownership

Independent member trust; Olaf is sporting lead. Sponsor purchases confer no automatic ownership. Rav remains Oreo’s human sponsor, mentor and protector.

Location

A fictional repaired tram depot on an east London side street, with an accessible street entrance.

Identity

Hand-painted brass lettering, cream notice cards and patched black canvas; Olaf’s approved black-and-gold kit remains intact.

Reputation

A serious development club with experienced contenders, ambitious newcomers and limited privacy.

Philosophy

Trust comes from reliable preparation. Olaf challenges the action without making affection conditional on the result.

Training specialities

Jab-led combinations, slip counters, compact body attacks and emotionally clear corner cues.

Training approach

Find one opening, prepare it and exit balanced. Courage always has a technical task.

Daily routine

  • Discreet readiness, food and recovery check-in.
  • Size-appropriate footwork groups and individual tactical pads.
  • Matched sparring or noncontact problem rounds with private film.
  • Cooldown, personal review and one agreed next task.

Atmosphere

Loud corrections and practical kindness; everyone wants to help, sometimes at once.

Facilities

Maintained showers, changing cubicles, recovery room and shared office. New investment repairs essentials before adding luxury.

Equipment

Adjustable bags and mirrors, body shields, floor-tape exits, portable steps and restricted-access cameras. Contact pairs require appropriate size and experience.

Communal spaces

Long kitchen table, labelled food shelves and a repaired bench near changing rooms. Nutrition support remains private.

Travel and camps

London residents use regular sessions; overseas members attend proposed sustained camps and return home between them. Nationalities remain unchanged.

Across the gyms

Crownline Athletic

Sporting and ethical rivalry

Second Bell and Crownline become contrasting London institutions. Olaf measures readiness through repeatable decisions made under pressure. Bea Locke expects professionals to account for every decision without leaning on a dramatic personal story. Neither believes expensive equipment can do the boxing.

Proposed narrative

A proposed joint community equipment appeal gives Oreo and Vinnie a reason to occupy the same room before they have fought. Vinnie tries to control the presentation; Bea refuses to indulge him, while Olaf becomes irritated when Rav turns a practical handover into an emotional speech. The coaches can disagree fiercely yet recognise each other's technical competence.

Breakwater Boxing Works

Affection complicated by a listed bout

Oreo's already listed next opponent is Graham Brooks. Their proposed gyms can respect one another without asking the fighters to soften the contest. Olaf and Mairi both value practical kindness, but Olaf protects individual focus while Mairi can assume that joining the group will fix every worry.

Proposed narrative

A proposed pre-event encounter places gentle Graham beside self-doubting Oreo at a mundane loading bay. They help move a box, then become awkward when a photographer asks for hostility. Olaf and Mairi interrupt for different reasons: neither wants the useful moment turned into a false feud. Training thereafter remains separate.

Meridian Boxing Cooperative

Mutual respect tested by the limits of care

Olaf and Thandi both know that a fighter can be generous and still need to say no. A proposed professional friendship lets Olaf's protective temper meet a coach who can challenge him without questioning his devotion to Oreo.

Proposed narrative

A proposed charity equipment exchange stalls because Adrian Keller has taken responsibility for every parcel and Ewan has volunteered for every awkward job. Thandi asks who actually accepted each task. Olaf initially takes the question as criticism, then sees that his own habit of stepping in can deprive a fighter of the chance to solve a problem.
