The institution

Overview

Private high-performance townhouse annex; blunt former negotiator who treats intimidation as wasted energy. Elite resources, strict privacy, individual accountability; Vinnie remains responsible for his choices.

History

Beatrice Locke spent years negotiating training leases and athlete service contracts before deciding that expensive facilities too often concealed unclear responsibilities. She bought a townhouse annex with several silent investors and retained a controlling operating share. Crownline grew through appointments, privacy and plainly stated service standards rather than an invented catalogue of famous alumni. The five-member stable now includes two source champions, but neither controls staffing or selection. Bea can refuse an influential client’s demand without pretending that her instruction determines everything he later chooses. The shared tea table was added deliberately: a beautifully serviced private suite should not become an excuse never to acknowledge another person.

Ownership

Independent operating company controlled by Beatrice; minority investors have no authority over sporting decisions.

Location

Fictional private training annex behind a restored west London townhouse, with a separate athlete entrance.

Identity

Engraved plaques, ink-blue rubber, bone walls and quiet gold edges. No champion portrait dominates communal space.

Reputation

An expensive academy where even intimidating stars answer direct questions. Its privacy attracts confidence and suspicion.

Philosophy

Privacy should permit honesty, not insulation from accountability.

Training specialities

Counter timing, measured range, composure under scrutiny and reading predictable reactions.

Training approach

Define the exchange, provoke a response and leave balanced. Intimidation is behaviour to analyse, not an identity to celebrate.

Daily routine

  • Booked readiness conversation.
  • Timed technical rounds with one declared question.
  • Matched counter drills or sparring with restricted viewing.
  • Admit one uncertainty and record the next action.

Atmosphere

Muted and orderly; a boast can hang in silence until its speaker explains what it means.

Facilities

Substantial investment in laundry, accessible lift, changing suites and booked recovery services; offices overlook corridors, never private changing rooms.

Equipment

Adjustable target rails, timing lights, conventional pads and ring cameras. Machines support judgement without making tactical decisions.

Communal spaces

Small tea kitchen and shared table interrupt isolation. Personal assistants wait separately from athlete discussions.

Travel and camps

English residents train regularly; Falk retains German nationality during proposed London camps. Accommodation does not rewrite citizenship.

Across the gyms

Second Bell Boxing Club

Sporting and ethical rivalry

Second Bell and Crownline become contrasting London institutions. Olaf measures readiness through repeatable decisions made under pressure. Bea Locke expects professionals to account for every decision without leaning on a dramatic personal story. Neither believes expensive equipment can do the boxing.

Proposed narrative

A proposed joint community equipment appeal gives Oreo and Vinnie a reason to occupy the same room before they have fought. Vinnie tries to control the presentation; Bea refuses to indulge him, while Olaf becomes irritated when Rav turns a practical handover into an emotional speech. The coaches can disagree fiercely yet recognise each other's technical competence.

Ferroluce Boxing Atelier

Luxury with opposing ideas of authority

Crownline and Ferroluce can both attract premium partners. Bea thinks a polished surface becomes useful only when nobody is distracted by maintaining it; Marta regards visual care as evidence of attention. Their proposed rivalry concerns who gets to set a star's daily priorities.

Proposed narrative

A proposed sponsor pitch requests an elaborate joint shoot. Bea wants a strict end time. Marta wants the fighters' contribution treated as skilled work rather than interchangeable glamour. Adrian Falk and Enzo Moretti each discover that being well presented does not excuse refusing an ordinary correction.
