Biography
Proposed background: Ivo was a rangy regional professional who discovered that disciplined distance could keep a career alive but could also become a way of postponing a decision. After retiring from competition, he spent years as a specialist footwork assistant in professional camps while editing technical translations between assignments. Longview grew from the individual lessons other trainers asked him to give. He understands the cost of waiting through direct competitive experience, and his restraint as a coach is partly an attempt not to repeat it.
Personality
Reserved, observant, dryly funny and unexpectedly direct when a meaningful answer is overdue. He enjoys company without performing sociability.
Coaching philosophy
A choice need not be perfect to deserve commitment. Good distance offers agency rather than permission to disappear.
Specialities
Lead-hand range, southpaw lanes, economical counter steps and reading an opponent’s weight without chasing the head.
Signature methods
Three-window drills offer only three exits; a quiet handclap closes the decision window. The boxer must name a reason, not list every possibility.
Corner behaviour
Few words in a flat, reassuring voice. He gives the cue early, then lets the athlete breathe instead of filling every second.
Sparring behaviour
Walks parallel to the ropes, watches rear-foot position and interrupts when waiting becomes an excuse to avoid the agreed task.
Fighter relationships
Magnus receives permission to act without proving he is gentle; Cormac’s wit is welcome but cannot replace an answer. Hamish can discuss a fear without being asked for a dramatic confession.
Strengths
Makes subtle movement legible and allows reserved athletes to retain dignity while being challenged.
Flaws
Sometimes waits for a fighter to volunteer a concern that the fighter needs help naming. His deadpan humour can seem colder than intended.
Appearance
Adult male white-and-slate Borzoi, long narrow muzzle, natural rose ears, fine silver hair at the jaw and a slightly stooped resting posture that straightens during demonstrations.
Professional attire
Dusk-blue knitted track top, chalk trousers, soft dark shoes and an old amber scarf removed before ring work.
