Biography

Santi grew up around late restaurant shifts and crowded family tables in Madrid. Boxing became the place where he learned to listen to someone who could not find the right words. His independent coaching career grew around short, clearly defined camp engagements and the trust earned by returning confidential material when the job ended. He cooks carefully, eats standing up when anxious and writes relatives’ birthdays inside his diary. He enjoys company but becomes unsettled when a reserved colleague offers no sign that he has been understood.

Personality

  • Sociable
  • Perceptive
  • Imaginative
  • Explains too much when anxious

Corner approach

Uses one memorable image, asks the fighter to repeat the useful instruction in his own words and then deliberately leaves silence. He owns technical leadership for his engagement while listening to conditioning and cut-care observations from the appropriate specialists.

Specialities

  • Bout-specific technical leadership
  • Pressure entries with balanced exits
  • Memorable communication for fighters under stress

Signature method

Makes the boxer repeat one short cue. For Koda, the task is to apply patient pressure while accepting a reset rather than treating every retreat as disloyalty to his own style.

Voice

Warm, lightly musical English with occasional natural Spanish expressions; never a caricature or a stream of untranslated commands.

Mannerisms

Turns his pocket diary sideways before an important note; takes his collar-hung glasses in hand when he needs to stop explaining.

Strengths

Builds trust quickly, notices emotional hesitation and turns abstract tactics into something memorable.

Flaw

When trust feels uncertain, he fills the silence with more explanation and can crowd the fighter’s own thinking.

Appearance

Tall, lean adult male Galgo Español with a long narrow muzzle, folded rose ears, short dark-brindle coat, warm amber eyes and silver around the mouth. Long neck, deep chest and restrained mature build, not a bulky generic wolf or boxer.

Professional attire

Midnight-navy zip-front corner shirt and matching trousers, cream-soled dark trainers. Copper-toned reading glasses secured at the shirt collar and a small burgundy pocket diary. No boxing gloves, belt, lab coat or gym ownership badge.

Relationships

  • Mina Auer

Mina retains conditioning support only; Santi carries technical leadership and does not mislabel her as a technical coach.

  • Desmond “Dez” Baptiste

Works with Dez in Koda’s corner; Dez’s clipped interval language helps him keep his own message short.

  • Petra Voss

Respects Petra as permanent head coach and her neutral position; no tactical relay to either side.

  • Harlan Rusk

Contrasting communication styles create professional friction, not secret collaboration. Each protects his own fighter’s information.
