Biography

Proposed background: Camilo followed a strong amateur apprenticeship with a brief regional professional career, then discovered that calling a useful cue for somebody else satisfied him more than performing his own entrance. He worked as an assistant trainer and rehearsal coordinator before founding La Azotea. His years preparing professional combinations and exits underpin the theatrical language; stage work supplies timing rather than a shortcut to expertise. He can recognise attention hunger so readily in his athletes because he has never entirely stopped negotiating with it himself.

Personality

Colourful, affectionate and a superb cue caller. He loves making people feel seen, then sometimes forgets he is also competing to be seen.

Coaching philosophy

Creative expression works when the fundamentals can carry it. The spotlight belongs to the team, including the person doing an unexciting job correctly.

Specialities

Shoulder feints, rhythm switches, hook preparation and defensive exits after a burst.

Signature methods

The shared-light drill gives each athlete one cue to lead and one cue to follow. A flourish counts only if the feet recover to the pre-agreed safe position.

Corner behaviour

His delivery is vivid but concise: “Quiet beat, then go. Finish outside.” He checks the fighter’s answer and never performs a monologue for the broadcast camera.

Sparring behaviour

He calls crisp cues and stops anyone chasing applause. When the room gets too loud, he empties the spectator line rather than demanding the boxer tune it out.

Fighter relationships

Mateo Santana keeps his theatrical instincts but learns their cost; Rafael is asked to share attention, and Elliot must finish the small correction before testing another breakthrough.

Strengths

Timing, memorable cues, infectious confidence and making a nervous athlete feel capable.

Flaws

Attention hunger can disguise itself as encouragement; may add another clever exercise when repetition was needed.

Appearance

Tricolour Beagle with a silvering muzzle, long expressive ears and a nimble compact build; one eyebrow seems permanently half amused.

Professional attire

Midnight-blue camp shirt with restrained coral piping, gold timer cord, dark track trousers and spotless practical trainers.
