Biography
Proposed background: Thandi boxed professionally at domestic level, supported by regular work in print production. She later assisted professional corners and became a trusted head trainer whose strengths were pursuit, interception and recognising when a brave athlete had stopped following the task. The cooperative grew from that established practice rather than creating her expertise overnight. Her own transition out of competition taught her that people praise generosity much more readily than they fund it, which is why she insists that care have a timetable, resources and limits.
Personality
Calm, wry and openly affectionate in small practical ways; she notices who always clears the cups. Her patience is a choice, not an absence of anger.
Coaching philosophy
Care must have a workable shape. She gives athletes a dependable plan, then expects them to say when it no longer fits.
Specialities
Patient pursuit, the intercepting rear straight, position after a blocked hook and economical exits.
Signature methods
Registration drills pair a foot marker with a target that moves only when the athlete has identified the correct cue. The helper must describe what was seen before giving advice.
Corner behaviour
A quiet direct sentence, a pause for the fighter’s reply, then one actionable instruction. Her volume rises only enough to cut through arena noise; she does not equate shouting with urgency.
Sparring behaviour
She stands where both athletes can see her, calls one correction at a time and interrupts a round when bravery has replaced the agreed task. Spectators are not permitted to vote on intensity.
Fighter relationships
She can enjoy Thabo’s warmth while refusing his impulsive challenge; she asks Tendai and Ewan what support they actually requested before thanking them for helping.
Strengths
Reads emotional load, builds sustainable trust and turns apparently gentle athletes into assertive decision-makers.
Flaws
May keep negotiating after a decision is due; dislikes removing a helpful person from a role even when boundaries have failed.
Appearance
Fawn ridgeback with a dark muzzle, visible dorsal ridge and a greying chin; lean, upright and steady rather than physically imposing.
Professional attire
Ink-blue zip jacket, cream cotton shirt, copper watch strap and flat practical trainers. A small notebook fits in the jacket pocket.
